LAHORE: Citizens and shopkeepers show concerns over the improper security arrangements at several makeshift markets (Sunday bazaars), urging concerned authorities look into the matter.
Citizens speaking with Daily Times said that police and security officers were present at entry gates but they did not bothered to check incoming visitors properly; which could become cause of an unfortunate incident.
Citizen further said that the government should increase the number of security guards and allocate them in two shifts. However, the strength of police officials and security guards very few in number as compare to visitors, making it difficult for them to concoct proper checking, they added.
It is pertinent to mention here that security guards were present at main entrance of Shahdman makeshift market, but the guards were more interested in gossips rather than keeping the citizens safe. Security guards refused to give any comment over this issues when asked about on it.
Citizens were also concerned over the security situation at Wahdat Colony Model Bazaar. They said that several vendors setup their stalls of handcarts in surrounding area of the model bazaar even in front of houses which was disrupting traffic. Locals said that they informed to administration of Sunday bazaars and police to eliminate these stalls in front of their houses many times, but they always neglected their concerns.
Similarly, Moon Market Sunday bazaar was shut down due to security concerns, but vendors have illegally setup handcarts and stalls near Pak Polytechnic Institute. They claimed to have paid two/three thousand rupees to Samnabad town administration and they do not disturb them. The town administration reportedly informs them before holding a crackdown against them on the direction of high officials.
