ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) provincial chapters stated on Saturday that if the ECP receives any reports on the polling day that women are forcefully stopped from casting their vote, the results of that constituency can be declared invalid.
The reports about Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan’s local women being stopped from voting were circulating and the ECP’s chapters took notice of such reports.
They stated that if female turnout from a constituency is less than 10%, the results of that constituency can be declared invalid.
Moreover, the provincial election commissioner Pir Maqbool Ahmed stated that if any person found involved in facilitating such acts or being involved in hindering women’s right to vote can face ten-year imprisonment.
Ahmed requested all candidates, politicians and other officials to ensure the participation of women in the upcoming general election.
