ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the opening batsman of Zia has been defeated in the election for Senate top slot.
“Zia’s opening batsman defeated. Balochistan wins. Federalism wins. Congratulations Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani,” Bilawal said in a tweet.
Elated by the victory of opposition-backed Sadiq Sanjrani as the Senate chairman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan also took to twitter to felicitate him. “Congratulations to Baloch Senator Sadiq Sanjirani for becoming Chairman Senate.
This will strengthen the federation. We are happy for the people of Balochistan & for the federation of Pakistan,” he tweeted.
In the Senate election on Monday, joint opposition-backed candidate Sanjrani secured 57 votes out of possible 103 votes and was administered the oath by presiding officer Sardar Yaqub Khan.
